I am the owner of a company which has recently acquired all of the manufacturing assets and design rights associated with a small us faa part 23 certified production amphibious airplane called the teal amphibian.
The aircraft is not presently in production. A thorough update and consolidation of design data for the different models covered under the faa type certificate my company holds is presently being concluded by mr. David thurston, the original designer of the aircraft. Mr. Thurston, a somewhat legendary us aircraft design engineer (especially in the amphibian/flying boat field) has recently completed design upgrades for various Powerplant and wingspan options to be made available in the future production of new aircraft and which are currently being certified through a flight test program in ontario, canada. The teal aircraft is a sturdy, single-engine, conventional gear amphibian with various fuel capacity and powerplant options, ideally suited for use as a primary flight trainer, seaplane trainer, "complex" (i. E. Constant speed prop, wing flaps and retractable gear) trainer, tailwheel transition trainer, and as a long-range patrol (border patrol, for example) aircraft capable of operating and refueling under most terrain or water conditions. It can easily taxi out of the water onto dry land and can operate at a Very small fraction of the cost of a helicopter which under many operational conditions is its only practical competitor. It has come to my attention that the people's republic of china is currently interested in promoting its general aviation industry by offering various opportunities to aircraft manufacturers wishing to operate in china. I am interested in exploring all of the opportunities that may be available in this regard, including joint-venture, lease or possibly even outright sale. I thus respectfully request your examination of this unique aircraft with these possibilities in mind. Perhaps you might then be able to refer Me to any contacts you feel may be useful in an effort to promote the production of this airplane in china. The teal would lend a useful (and fun) diversity to the chinese skies. I believe the chinese-built teal may even qualify for export to the us under the 1991 bilateral agreement, especially since it is being produced nowhere else at this time. I've contacted the faa international office and have received a favorable opinion on this matter. There is a website maintained by teal enthusiasts for those interested in the aircraft. It can be found at our web. This website will give you an excellent overview of the teal. As well as all necessary rights to this aircraft (including the faa type certificate), my company owns all production tooling, jigs, form blocks etc. Many shelves of new detail airframe parts which can be certified for use in new production aircraft under a new production certificate, and at least one demonstration aircraft. We also have free access to several other privately owned teals as needed for demonstration purposes both in europe and in the us. Please assist me in locating someone in the chinese aviation community who might wish to join me in exploring the potential for an interesting and exciting future for this versatile aircraft.
